Drugs and Alcohol Addiction is a universal problem. There are several ways to overcome it.
New Jersey

Drug Abuse

Both the powder form and crack cocaine poses considerable drug threats to New Jersey. Heroin from all major source areas is available in the state. However, South American heroin is the most readily available type. Heroin prices are significantly higher in southern New Jersey than northern areas of the state.

Marijuana is the most commonly abused and easily obtainable illicit drug in New Jersey. The greater part of the marijuana encountered in the state is of Mexican origin. Jamaican and Canadian varieties can also been seen on a lesser scale in the state.

The supply and abuse of methamphetamine pose a lower threat to New Jersey than other common illicit drugs. The use of club drugs remains popular in nightclubs all over the state and mainly in the casino areas of Atlantic City. The availability and abuse of GHB are escalating. The stimulant khat is readily available in New Jersey. Its use seems to be limited to immigrant communities from Arabian, East African, and Middle Eastern countries. Diverted pharmaceuticals are being widely distributed and abused in New Jersey.

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (2001), 1.06% of New Jersey citizens reported in the past year, their dependence on illicit drugs.

Alcohol Abuse

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2003), around 58% of the New Jersey population (aged 12 or older) reported the past month use of alcohol. Around 19% of the people in the age group of 12-17 years and more than 65% in the age group of 18-25 years reported using alcohol in the past month. Among the people of 26 years or older the rate is around 66%.

In the survey, around 22% of the New Jersey people showed binge alcohol use and around 45% reported perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week. In the age group of 12-17, past month binge alcohol use is more than 10%. In the state, 6.30% of the total population showed alcohol dependence or abuse in past year.
