Drug Addiction Treatment, Drug and Alcohol Rehabs Recovery and Abuse

Demand for cocaine is steadily declining in the state of Wyoming. However, its prices remain stable. Crack cocaine is available in low quantities in the state. Heroin does not pose a significant threat to Wyoming. It is not considered a popular illicit drug of abuse in the state and doesn't present a significant problem for law enforcement. Mexican black tar is the only form of heroin available in the state.

The largest drug threat to Wyoming is nothing other than Methamphetamine. Most of the meth available in the state is from Mexico. Methamphetamine from California and domestically prepared methamphetamine are also available in the state.

Marijuana is the most extensively available and commonly abused illicit substance in Wyoming. It is considered the second largest threat to the state. Marijuana produced in Mexico is the predominant type available. Marijuana from other states and locally produced marijuana are also obtainable in the state. Marijuana prices remain stable in the state. Mexican sinsemilla is not a popular drug in Wyoming.

Use of club drugs is fast growing all over Wyoming. The diversion of pharmaceuticals poses a significant threat to the state. Depressants and semi-narcotic painkillers such as Dilaudid (hydromorphone), Vicodin (hydrocodone), Percocet, and Percodan (oxycodones) are commonly abused here. Among heroin users Dilaudid has the reputation of a substitute for heroin.

According to the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse (2001), 1.24% of Wyoming citizens reported past year dependence on illicit drugs. In 2001, 41% of high school students in Wyoming reported using marijuana once in their life.

Alcohol Abuse

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2003), more than 52% of the Wyoming population (aged 12 or older) reported past month use of alcohol. More than 18% of the people in the age group of 12-17 years and more than 66% in the age group of 18-25 years reported using alcohol past month. Among the people of 26 years or older the rate is more than 54%.

In the survey, around 25% of the Wyoming people showed binge alcohol use and more than 37% reported perceptions of great risk of having five or more drinks of an alcoholic beverage once or twice a week. In the age group of 12-17, past month binge alcohol use is around 13%. In the state, 9.23% of the total population showed alcohol dependence or abuse in past year.
